Children’s Holiday Venture was set up by Children’s Relief International in the 1960s, to provide holiday camps to the children of refugee families in Eastern Europe.
This website brings together memories and photos from the time, compiled by some of the volunteers who took part from Cambridge University in the 1960s and 70s.

By way of introduction, this article by Peter Watson explains the background on how the archive project was started and the importance of volunteers’ contributions. This article from Tony Watts outlines the early development of CHV at St Catharine’s College as a student response to the refugee crisis in Europe in the 1950s and 60s. We wish to thank everyone who has shared their memories and pictures already, and hope that further information will be added in the future.
